About Laura Kivela Schroeder

Artist's Statement
For me art is a way of capturing and celebrating the beauty I see around me, and also a way of processing personal and collective experiences. I enjoy operating within a range from the abstract to the recognizable, and delight in making things that appear organized or systematic yet are clearly handmade by a human being occupying a particular body. I work in collaboration with the materials and finished pieces are the sum of innumerable decisions and reactions that occur in the process . . . "this, not that," after each touch of the surface, which then creates a new question.
